ENG 203 World Lit (7th Hour)

Welcome back to blogging, 7th hour!  We in the blogging world have missed your opinions and are excited to read what you have to say today.  Your assignment today (DUE BY THE END OF THE HOUR) is to respond to the article passed out and the questions below.  If you have any questions, let Ms. Thomas know. Have fun!


TIP: USE MICROSOFT WORD TO ANSWER/RESPOND TO THE BLOG QUESTIONS.  THEN COPY AND PASTE YOUR RESPONSE ONTO THE BLOG (that way, if it doesn't post correctly, you won't loose everything.)

Step 1) READ the article

Step 2) RESPOND in a paragraph or two to the following questions (and feel free to comment on any additional ideas/thoughts you had about the article).

                          Question 1: Do you think that schools/classes should be segregated according to gender?  Why  
                                               or why not?

                          Question 2: What different kind of ways do YOU think that schools could organize classrooms so that
                                             students might be able to learn better?

                          Question 3: Do you think that it's "OK to make judgments of entire groups of human beings based on
                                             race or sex?"  Why or why not?

Step 3) If time permits, respond to another classmate's blog posting.  Write about how you agree or disagree with
            what they said.

On Blog #2 we ask you to respond to the article you received entitled "To Sleepy to Think."

1) What do you think? Do you wish school started later in the day even if it meant the time school ended was later? (example: School would begin at 9 and end at 4:15.) Why?

2) Do you think that the time school starts should stay the same? Explain why?

3)What other pros and cons might students/teachers, etc. face if the school day was shortened or lengthened? (Would it effect afterschool activities, students' jobs, etc.)

4) Who would benefit the most by this time change? (Teachers, students, parents) How would they benefit?

Each response should be at least 4-5 sentences long.

Make sure to support and develop your response so that fellow classmates can better understand where you're coming from and why you believe the way you do.

"Teen Won't Return Explicit Book to Library"

You've read the article about the 15-year-old that wouldn't return her book to the library because she thought it was too explicit for her school's library. 

Now, discuss with your classmates:

1. Do you think her actions were fair?  Should she have the right to not return the book? 
2. Should people/communities be able to ban books from libraries because of sexual content?  Why or why not? 
3. Are their books that you're aware of that you think should/should not be banned from public or school libraries? 
4. Should teens be exposed to books with explicit sexual content?  Why or why not?
